37/24
Scenario
A serial adaptation of James Patterson’s novels about the complicated and brilliant detective Alex Cross
In episode 2, Cross tells Sampson that he smells like “mothballs and old spice.” In real life, Isaiah Mustafa appeared in the big Old Spice ads as “the man your man could smell like.” We liked Cross enough to watch all eight episodes in two sittings.
But the storytelling and resolution were disappointingly mundane
My wife would give it an 8; I gave it a 7 (and I’m the one writing the review!) Aldis Hodge is convincing with great expressive eyes.
(I should add that you can’t help but notice that each episode has a different writer(s) and director(s)
Cross suffers a bit from the “How do we fill 8 hours?” problem, as well as occasionally “jumping the shark” on some of the outrageous things that happen.
I would have loved to see Alex Cross solve some conventional murders, and in particular, non-murderers that have a connection to Alex Cross
That was especially disappointing about the ending of this series, which suggests that a second series (if there is one) may have similarities to the first.
